Van Gogh Sunflowers

Students began by viewing one of Van Gogh's sunflower paintings and listening to the book "Camille and the Sunflowers" by Laurence Anholt.  Next, they used tempera paint to create a background.  The vase was created by folding paper in half and cutting the vase's profile.  Students then used line to decorate their vase and with extra time, they could add color with watercolors.  Using circle tracers, students created their sunflowers (some chose to cut petals into their flowers).  Finally, all the elements were layered onto the background to create a feeling of depth.
