Leaves on Water
2"x14"x14"
2016
This ceramic platter was created by slab rolling low fire clay then pushing Maple leaves into the damp clay. The leaves were then removed, leaving an impression in the clay. The clay was then placed on a hump mold to set up. Once the clay was leather hard, the clay around the leaves was removed and the edges of the platter textured. Feet were added to the bottom of the platter and the platter fired in the kiln. Once bisqued, watercolor glazes were sponged on in layers to the leaves and painted on the background. A clear glaze was brushed over the entire piece before the final cone 06 firing.
