Mosaic Bear
48"x48"x1"
2015
This piece was created with the campers for the town of Long Lake's Bear Decorating Contest. The design for the bear was made in conjunction with campers and re imagines the Long Lake Camp logo. The tiles for the mosaic were glazed by the campers using glazes with colors that can be blended together. Once fired, the tiles were broken and separated by color. The theater techies added the wood for the mountains, river and trees and the pencil steel for the floating constellations. The campers then set about trimming and arranging the tiles. Mirror pieces were added to the water for sparkle. Mirror tiles were adhered to the sides of small wooden cubes and the cubes then glued to the points of the floating constellations. The entire piece was then grouted with white sanded grout. The grout was painted with a wash of black acrylic to tone the brightness down.
