Monarch Fairy (Back)
48”x28”x8”
2015.
For these fairy wings I created a wing design based on the Monarch butterfly. This design was transferred onto silk screen fabric by painting on block out to the negative space of the design. The screen was then printed by hand onto silk fabric and the wings colored using alcohol/water silk dyes. Galvanized steel wire was soldiered together to form the wing framework. This frame allows the wings to be worn with straps or slid down the back of a corset. More galvanized steel wire was soldiered to the back of the frame for the butterfly swarm. The frame was then painted and each silk wing hand sewn to the frame.
