Lifecast
Cold Cast Bronze
10"x6"x4"
2016
This life cast was part of a group project where four campers that were interested in life casting came together to help cast each other. I helped organize the group and arrange times for casting. Once together, the group would help prep the materials and the group member who was being cast. While casting, the group would apply the alginate, stop any leaks and talk to the person being cast. Group members would also apply the plaster bandages for the mother mold and help clean up afterward. Once the mold was finished, the person who the mold was of would take over. They would help mix the colorant into the part B of the resin and then mix in the bronze powder. The entire resin mixture would then be poured into the finished mold. When the resin had set, the piece would be removed from the mold and the camper would set to work polishing the surface with a little acetone and steel wool. Once the raised areas were polished enough, the camper then applied black shoe polish and then wiped it off to help bring out the sculpture's texture. When the camper was satisfied with the look, the piece would be sealed with clear, satin spray paint.
