Landscape Collage

Students were introduced to landscapes by first looking at the work of Justin Vining.  We talk about horizontal and vertical, as well as foreground, middle ground, and background.  We look at examples that demonstrate how objects in the foreground are bigger than objects in the middle or back ground.  As a skill builder, we draw a simple landscape together and then students populate their landscapes with anything they want.  Next, students paint a sky on one piece of paper, and ground on another.  Using their knowledge of landscapes, students cut and layer their paintings and other paper to create their own unique landscapes.
