Happy Accident Paper Weavings
Second Grade, 2020
With all the craziness of 2020, I thought we could do with a little fun and relaxation. So I introduced the second graders to the work of Bob Ross. I read the story "Bob Ross and Peapod the Squirrel" and showed them short clips of Bob Ross painting and talking about , "We don't make mistakes, just happy accidents." We talked about the importance of experimenting and how experimenting teaches us new things. We then discussed the difference between warm and cool colors. The students were then tasked with creating a warm color painting and a cool color painting using the wet on wet watercolor technique. They could experiment with mixing colors and making textures. Next, students wove the two paintings together into one piece.
