Dragon Wings
21"x34"x40"
2017
For her last year at camp, this camper had a big project in mind. I had her draw her dream wings out to scale on a large piece of paper. She next cut the wing arm pattern out of the paper and traced it onto luan. We cut the wing arms and the back plate out of wood and screwed them together. Metal wire was cut and attached to the wooden arm to form the wing fingers. Nylon straps and buckles were attached to the back plate and maroon fabric was hand sewn to the fingers. The back plate and arms were then sprayed with expandable foam to give then the shape and texture the camper was looking for. She then painted the back plate and wings with acrylic and sealed the paint with clear spray paint. After padding the back plate with craft foam, the camper wore her wings to the big camp dance.
