Steampunk Fairy Door

Using a 1/12 scale wooden door and steampunk embellishments, a gateway to another dimension is created. The main feature of this doorway is the working cross bar. Grooves are cut into the balsa wood door bar that match up with the teeth on the gear. When the wind up key is turned, the cross bar moves, unlocking the door and allowing access to the dimension beyond. This piece inspired a Steampunk Fairy Door Workshop where I led several students in making doors of their own complete with working cross bar and inter-dimensional travel.
